Gone Bush 2 – Otways Overnighter

A camping over nighter following the idea of the first Gone Bush ride, this ride will cover a decent distance on good dirt roads to the Parker Hill campsite. Parker Hill is near Cape Otway and just near the beach! A lot of these roads have been ridden on last years Otways trip. If you have ridden down that way much, this is the ride for you. BYO camping gadgets and trickery and food. More details to come. Good ride for any sized adventure bike and skill level. Gonna be a rippa!

The ‘ Imagine’ Ride

The ‘Imagine’ Ride

Imagine there’s no heaven,

it’s easy if you try,

no hell below us,

above us only sky….

Got to be John Lennon at his best. In an acrimonious comment about fellow Singer/ Songwriter Paul McCartney, he suggested the only good song he ever wrote was ‘Yesterday’, and if you look at the singular work of McCartney after the Beatles broke up, it was a harsh comment, but arguably fair.

The Imagine Ride is a gentle Level 2 ride down to a not often visited part of our home patch, South East Gippsland. The ride is based around a ride Damo and I did with Robbo and another Random, back in the swirling mists of time, when Robbo wanted to trial his luggage setup for Wayne’s  abortive Outback ride. That route covered nearly 400 Km, and while easy, was a long day. I have modified Robbo’s original route and will post the GPX file shortly. It is a mixture of sealed and two wheel dirt roads, with a wee bit of smaller tracks but all pretty straightforward. Graded at level 2, the distance is now about 285 km, starting and terminating at YJ, with plenty of options to hit the highway home if you wish. It will include part of the famed Grand Ridge Road which has some magical vistas, if you can lift your eyes from the twisties for a blink or two.

Brisbane Ranges MADCAT day ride (replay of Steppenwolf ride)

Brisbane Ranges MADCAT day ride

This is a re-ride of the popular Steppenwolf: Born to be wild ride Tim ran last year. It’ll be a lovely route which will take us through the Brisbane Ranges in a roughly south to north direction, through Bacchus Marsh and north through the Lederderg State Forest and then west to Blackwood where there is a pub, our potential lunch place, depending on the time and speed of the group.

We then head East through the top of the State Forest to join the Calder Highway at Gisbourne, and then back to Citylink via the Calder. The ride time will be around five and a half hours not including stops, with the last hour or so an easy ride home on the bitty. The new route has been posted as a GPX on the download section of this& website.

Trip/route grading

This is going to be a medium difficulty ride. You can see beneficial information about our grading system in the members at this link.

Medium ride: The ride is heading for gravel roads which may be unkempt, have uneven surfaces, soft sand and be narrow with sharp blind corners a feature of the road.

Make sure your tank is full
Be at the meeting point no later than 9:30 am

The ride is subject to the leader being able to lead, or a suitable substitute leader.
